Tumelo Makgoara
Tumelo Makgoara is a seasoned broadcaster, media strategist, and accomplished radio production specialist with over a decade of experience shaping broadcast content, public discourse, and audience engagement in South Africa. He currently serves as Programmes Manager at UNISA Radio, the official broadcast platform of the University of South Africa, where he leads programming strategy, editorial direction, and content innovation.
A qualified journalist and communicator by training, Makgoara intentionally carved his path on the production side of the industry—developing a reputation as a creative director, executive producer, and media executive with a strong command of storytelling, content architecture, and audience-centric broadcasting. His work reflects a deep understanding of how to translate complex social, political, and developmental issues into compelling, accessible radio content.
Makgoara has built a distinguished career across some of South Africa’s most influential radio institutions. His professional journey includes key roles at Metro FM, POWER 98.7, Talk Radio 702, and YFM. Across these platforms, he has contributed to high-impact programming, led production teams, and helped shape nationally relevant conversations
Renowned for his ability to conceptualise and execute standout broadcast features, Makgoara has developed nationally recognised editorial segments such as “After 8 Is After 8” and “Legal Talk”. His creative approach blends strong editorial judgement with innovative production techniques, ensuring that content remains both informative and engaging.
